Nathan Slachter
About Nathan
Nathan’s goals as a speaker are to increase society’s acceptance of people with disability, advocate for better services and create a more accessible future.
Born with Cerebral Palsy, his experiences of growing up with a disability, and navigating the healthcare system and disability services as an adult, have inspired him to speak out about stereotyping and misconceptions around disability.
“When my wife and I go out in public they will either assume she is my sister or support worker before I tell them I’m married to her…People often treat me as though I have the mental capacity of a 5 year old. It is only once I open my mouth and they hear me talk that they understand I am more than just a body in a wheelchair.”
Nathan is a member of the Queenslanders with Disability Network and a long-time member of Speakers Bank. He has spoken to numerous organisations, including schools, universities and community groups, and was co-host of the Speakers Bank podcast.
He is involved with Happy Paws Happy Hearts and his local church. He lives in Queensland with his wife and three cats and would eventually like to have children, bees and chickens.
